HILLSBORO, Ore. (KATU) — A new OMSI lab has debuted in a Hillsboro elementary school.
Tamarack Elementary School is partnering with OMSI to bring technology, engineering, math and the environment to the school.
The lab is physically a part of the building’s structure.
The lessons give students the chance to learn with hands-on activities.
During the year, students will rotate to the lab.
Students from other schools will be able to take a field trip to the lab.
This is the first school to have a built-in OMSI lab.
“With OMSI programming, with project-based learning, anything where kids are able to have an open-ended project that they can come at different access points, they are able to glean more from that content, as they are building the content, as they are learning about the content,” said Christina Walters, principal of Tamarack Elementary School.
Now, they are hosting summer camp classes. OMSI instructors from the lab are looking to travel to other schools to teach classes.
